In the realm of education, effective school management plays a pivotal role in fostering a conducive learning environment and nurturing excellence in students and staff alike. School performance management is the process of setting clear objectives, monitoring progress and taking strategic actions to achieve academic, social and organisational goals. It is therefore no coincidence that the 5th edition of Edufundi’s Lead Like a Champion (LLAC) workshop was entitled “Performance Management”.
The Garden Court Hotel in Umhlanga was a hive of activity last Saturday 10th February 2024 when the School Management Teams (SMTs) from the 10 schools which are being supported by Edufundi in KZN as well as Provincial Department of Education officials gathered for yet another session. This workshop was aimed at the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that teachers and staff provide services which effectively meet the needs of their students and which are aligned with the vision and mission of the school.
The workshop was facilitated by the highly accomplished, passionate and energetic Mrs Vuyo Vinqi (Programmes Manager). Mrs Vinqi, herself a former school principal, was articulate in exemplifying what true agency means by offering SMT members an opportunity to use their own voices in so many ways during the course. Her immense understanding of school management really shone through. She provided school managers a safe platform to reflect on their practice and plan, incorporate and implement strategies.
From the feedback received, it is evident that attendees thoroughly enjoyed the discussions which were rich, authentic and motivating. The principal of Corovoca Primary, Mr Musa Mbanjwa had this to say: “As a recently appointed principal, I found the deliberations to be highly informative. The workshop has provided me with specific hands-on skills which will be invaluable in my role as a manager. Thank you Edufundi. You are doing a great job.” All in all, it was a stellar workshop.

Edufundi believes that providing managers with ongoing high quality professional development is critical for ensuring effective school leadership. The organisation is excited and looking forward to its impact in the various schools it supports.
