Edufundi Welcomes New Leadership in South Africa’s Basic Education Sector
July 2, 2024My Experience as an Intern at Edufundi
August 11, 2024Last week (15 to 20 July 2024) was exceptionally busy yet invigorating for Edufundi’s KZN team as the organization’s charismatic CEO, Stu Letsatsi, and inspirational National Programmes Manager, Vuyokazi Vinqi, made a fleeting visit to the province.
Productive Meetings with Department of Education Officials
The week began with meetings with Department of Education officials from the Umlazi and Pinetown districts, alongside several school principals. These meetings aimed to introduce the Edufundi Support Programme, consisting of the "Teach like a Champion" and "Lead like a Champion" programmes, to potential schools for the new cohort starting in 2025. It was heartening to see all attendees display a keen interest in joining this innovative school support programme. Departmental officials expressed their enthusiasm and welcomed this initiative, believing it will address challenges, especially in underprivileged public primary schools.
Surprise Visit to Buhlebethu Primary
Ms. Pretty Mthembi, a former mentee at Buhlebethu Primary, and Mrs. Ntombilezi Mthethwa, the HOD, were pleasantly surprised when the CEO visited their school. Ms. Mthembi was one of the top teachers in Edufundi’s Impact Study conducted late last year.
Culmination with LLAC6 Workshop
The week culminated with LLAC6, the final edition of a series of workshops aimed at capacitating members of school management teams. This session was facilitated by the dynamic Mrs. Vinqi and provincial manager and seasoned educationist, Mr. Bheki Ngidi.
Participants gained an understanding of how vision, purpose, teamwork, and curriculum management are linked to the school. They also explored the key elements of ‘a culture of care’ and the role of school leaders in developing it.
Sustaining Edufundi Principles
After supporting these schools for the past three years, it is hoped that SMTs are now well-equipped to sustain and embed the Edufundi principles into their school culture.
