The Absolute Need of a Mentor
September 12, 2018“A book is a gift you can open again and again” – Garrison Keillor
November 12, 2018During our recent visit to Bonga Primary last Friday, Ms Ndakisa was given the gift of a reading corner with a book set and reading mat by her mentor Sylvie Moodley.
Sylvie said “Ms Ndakisa sought support in the middle of last year because it was her first time teaching English as a First Additional Language. I started mentoring her in the 3rd term of last year…..and there has been no looking back. With limited resources she engaged her learners and created a safe environment for them to develop a love for learning. Furthermore her attitude towards the programme, consistency with TLAC techniques and use of all our recommendations contributed towards her being chosen to get a reading corner, I know that the books will be put to good use.”
“I was so surprised, this has been a joyous day for me!”

We asked Ms Ndakisa how she felt after being chosen, ‘I had never taught language before this year and I knew I needed help and I wasn’t afraid to ask. I was blessed that Sylvie took me under her wing even though she already had 3 teachers to mentor. Now I have fallen in love with language. I am so grateful to Edufundi and Sylvie for helping me and I can now say I am a Champion Teacher!’
Many thanks to our sponsors Corevest and Tsogo Sun for their generous donation of these reading corners!
