January 30, 2024Leadership and Learning are Indispensable to Each Other
February 14, 2024
Last weekend, the Western Cape hosted their Lead Like a Champion (LLAC) Workshop 5, bringing together schools from Cape Town that are part of the Edufundi Support Programme for the day. Edufundi's Programmes Manager and master facilitator, Vuyo Vinqi, led the workshop, keeping all the Schools' Management Teams focused and engaged.
The workshop emphasized that leadership is a journey that requires constant learning, growth, and development, echoing John C. Maxwell's words: "Leadership develops daily, not in a day." The following are some reflections and tips from the workshop when it comes the Leading Like a Champion:’
Focus on People First:
The core of leadership is relationships. Make connecting with your people a priority. Get to know them personally and what motivates them. Show genuine care about their well-being. Be authentic, vulnerable, and approachable as a leader. When people feel valued, they will follow you.
Lead by Example:
Your team observes your every move. They learn more from your actions than your words. Model the behavior you expect from others. Work hard, take initiative, and uphold the highest standards. Admit mistakes, apologize when needed, and keep growing. Your example will inspire others.
Develop the Team:
The best leaders grow other leaders. Invest in your team members by coaching them, providing training, giving feedback, and delegating responsibilities. Nurture their talents and empower their growth. Let your people spread their wings, make decisions, and develop new skills. Your legacy is measured by those you develop.
Communicate the Vision:
A leader provides direction and rallies people towards a common goal. Share an inspiring vision that gives meaning and purpose. Communicate it frequently in words and actions. Remind the team how their work is making a difference. An energizing vision propels teams to new heights.
Stay Humble and Hungry:
The moment you think you have arrived as a leader is when you stop growing. Remain humble, hungry, and open to learning. Listen attentively to feedback and new ideas. Continuously strive for improvement and raise the bar. The best leaders have an insatiable appetite for growth.
Leadership is challenging but incredibly rewarding. Following these tips will help you lead like a champion. Stay focused on developing your people, leading by example, and communicating vision. With consistency and commitment, you will make an enduring impact. Lead well!
